Dutch Oven Cook-off planned for Gravette Days

GRAVETTE - A new activity at Gravette Days this year will be a “Traditional Dutch Oven Cook-Off.” Sponsored by the Gravette Historical Museum, the competition, by teams, will be held on the grounds of the museum on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Teams from Kansas, Oklahoma and Southern Arkansas have already signed up, according to Allyson Ransom, museum commission vice-president. Moreentries are being sought to compete for $300 in cash prizes, as well as medallions for the top three winners in each category. The entry fee is $15 per team, with up to three members.

The cook-off will be a three-pot competition, main dish, bread and dessert, and conducted according to International Dutch Oven Society rules. Participants must use wood or charcoal briquettes and cook-off on the ground. Cooking will begin at 10 a.m., and top winner will be announced about2:30 p.m. A highlight will be public tasting, Ransom said.

“If you know of a Dutch oven team, we’d appreciate you mentioning this event to them,” said Ransom. “We hope to make it such a success it can become an annual event for Gravette Days.”
