Gentry to host July 4th celebration in city park

GENTRY - Chase Rice will be the featured entertainer at this summer’s Freedom Festival in Gentry, held on July 4th in the city park.

Rice, singer and songwriter and also known for his slot on the TV show “Survivor,” will be performing on stage in the Gentry Park on the evening of July 4, just before the annual fi reworks display.

Other events planned for the Gentry Freedom Festival on July 4 in the city park include the following:

◊7 a.m. - Fun Run, with registration at 7 a.m. and the races starting at 7:30 a.m. The one-mile Fun Run is free; the 5K run has a $25 entry fee. There will be six age groups and trophies for the top two overall male and female runners. All runners in the 5K will receive a T-shirt and Little Debbie Snacks. ◊All Day - Adult Coed Softball. Teams must have at least three women. Contact Jodye Pool at 790-8988 for more information or to sign up a team.

◊9:30 a.m. - Car Show, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. and trophies presented at 4 p.m. For more information, contact Tammie Runyan at 238-4979

◊All Day and Evening - Food and Drink Vendors.Most opening at noon.

◊All Day and Evening - Inflatable rides for children, with arm bands available.

◊All Day - Free Rides on tractor-pulled wagons and rides on tractors.

◊2 to 4 p.m. - Wrestling Exhibition by Native American Wrestling.

◊4 to 5 p.m. - Open Mic - Performers can sing one or two songs on the Main Stage. Performers must provide their own CD backup music and check in with Michelle Finnell in the park. No preregistration is necessary - first come, first to sing! Everyone is invited to participate.

◊5 to 5:40 p.m. - Exhibition by cheer-leading and gymnastic teams.

◊6 p.m. - Little Miss and Mister Gentry Pageant. Children must live in the Gentry School District and be 4 or 5 years old as of July 1, 2013. Contact Robin Capps at 233-9793 for more information and entry forms.

◊7 p.m. - Kaylin Cripps and Band, along with a special guest who will be joining them for this special performance

◊8:30 p.m. - Free Chase Rice Concert.

◊9:45 p.m. - (Dusk) The biggest fireworks show Gentry has ever hosted, ignited by the Gentry Fire Department and volunteers.
