'Arts in the Park' event moved indoors, but still draws crowds

GRAVETTE - The crowd was standing room only in the Gravette High School commons Saturday afternoon as old and young alike enjoyed the Gravette School “Arts in the Park” event.

Originally scheduled to be held in Tiree Park in Bella Vista, the displays and entertainment were all moved indoors to the high school.

The activities, which began at 3 p.m., featured both the Gravette High School and Middle School bands and choral groups, as well as jazz band entertainment during the fun-filled afternoon.

And art? Of course there were many displays of the students’ work from both the middle- and high-school level. Friends and family members weaved among the displays to point out their favorites. And there were many.

As a special highlight, students in the drama department displayed their talents through mime and live statue enactments.

There were food and soft drinks and face painting, which gave students an outlet for that special talent. And there were various ceramic and other crafted items which showed the depth of the arts departments.

Having to move almost 15 miles from a park to a crowded indoor activity didn’t affect the enjoyment for all who attended to reward the students, sponsors and the Gravette School District Performing Arts Committee.

And next year, the committee is looking forward to cooperative weather. The attached photos give a brief view of a few of the activities at the event.
