Fundraising events set to send OM teams to world competition

GENTRY - A number of fundraising events have been scheduled to raise money to send three Gentry Odyssey of the Mind teams to world competition in East Lansing, Mich., later this month.

Odyssey of the Mind Dinner Theatre is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Gentry High School cafeteria. Tickets are $10 per adult, with children 12 and under eating free.

Paid tickets provide a meal from the build-your-own nacho/potato bar and five raffle tickets for a very nice item to be given away at the end of the evening.

There are also lots of great items donated from northwest Arkansas businesses that will be sold by silent auction that evening.

The evening will finish with all six Gentry Odyssey of the Mind teams showcasing the skits they took to competition this year.

Contact Dorothy Ivey at 236-1170 or Emily Hodges at 233-9002 for more information or to obtain tickets.

Another fundraiser, the Bug Splat Motorcycle Run on Saturday, May 18, is a 63-mile ride from Gentry to Jay (Okla.) and back. The bike entry fee is $10. First bike out is at 10 a.m. Check-in is at 1 p.m. Prizes go to the first three spots. Riders will meet at the parking lot beside La Huerta’s Restaurant in Gentry and return there as well. For more information, call Nanci at 238-3022 or Shawn at 549-7417.

A softball tournament at the Main Street ball fields and a huge garage sale at Cherokee Auto are also being planned for Saturday, May 18.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinners will be offered on May 15. Orders will be taken for lunch deliveries to local Gentry businesses. Dinners will be delivered for $6 or available to pick up for $5. The meal includes a helping of spaghetti and homemade spaghetti sauce, breaded chicken strips, green beans, garlic bread and a cookie.
