Eagles shut out varsity Bulldogs

— The Decatur High School Bulldogs traveled to Fort Smith to take on the Union Christian Eagles on Nov. 1. The set of problems that plagued the Bulldogs all season traveled with them as they were defeated by the Eagles, 42 to 0.

Decatur could not get anything going on offense or defense. Union Christian scored 21 points in the first half and 21 in the second to hand Decatur its seventh loss of the season. The Bulldogs are 2 and 7 overall.

Head Football Coach Shane Holland referred to the contest as, “It was a long night.”

“We gave up a lot of big plays defensively and, offensively, we did not walk very well. We couldn’t maintain any drives because we couldn’t block consistently,” he said.

The Bulldogs will beon the road for their fi nal game of the season, playing the Leftwich Rattlers in Magazine on Nov. 8. Game starts at 7 p.m.

The junior high Bulldogs fared a little better, losing to the Union Christian Eagles 28 to 6 at Bulldog Stadium on Oct. 31.

Two days of rain made the field condition less than favorable during the match up with the JV Eagles. Almost two-thirds of the Decatur sideline was under water, making conditions treacherous.

The only Decatur score came in the second half as Leng Lee broke several tackles before fi nding open field and running into the end zone. The Bulldogs tried for a two-point conversion to Lee, but he was tackled short of the goal line.

The final game of the season for the junior high will be against Magazine at Bulldog Stadium on Nov. 7. The game starts at 7 p.m. Seventh grade plays at 5:30.
