Food pantry open, meeting needs

— Share the Harvest Food Pantry (a ministry of Harvest Baptist Church in Gravette) is open and serving clients every Thursday afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m.

On Thursday, Nov. 28, the pantry will be closed for Thanksgiving. All clients are asked to come the week before in order to receive their monthly food, said Deryl King, pastor.

“We’re planning on giving Thanksgiving type food the week before Thanksgiving,” a spokesman said. “With the holidays coming, we’re anticipating a greater than normal need for the holiday season. Please come early and be prepared to wait while we service other clients. The closer we get to Christmas, the busier we are.”

Share the Harvest Food Pantry is a continuation of the Feed My Sheep Food Pantry located in Gravette. Sponsored by the First Christian Church, the Feed My Sheep Pantry grew to service almost 400 people per month. In September, 2013, Harvest Baptist Church was approached about taking over responsibility and oversight of this vital ministry to the needy in the community.

Harvest Baptist Church assumed oversight of the pantry on Oct. 1. It continues to grow and serve more of those in need each week. Volunteers are always being accepted, and new clients are welcomed every Thursday afternoon between 1 and 5 p.m.

The pantry recently had a bowl-a-thon event at which almost $1,300 was raised to buy food for those less fortunate in the community. The pantry is currently seeking sponsors for the 2014 calendar year. Sponsors are givenfree advertisement on the pantry’s volunteer T-shirts and ads on the newsletters.

Share the Harvest Food Pantry is located within Harvest Baptist Church, located at 22036 N. Hwy. 59, two miles south of Gravette on Hwy. 59.
