Reading event planned at Gentry Library

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, a national campaign that provides the opportunity for millions to celebrate literacy and support Jumpstart in promoting highquality early education for all children in America, is urging all to get involved.

On Oct. 3, individuals from across the country will read “Otis,” a timeless story of a friendship between a lovable tractor and a calf that live on a farm. The story was written by New York Times bestselling author, Loren Long.

Participants will read the same book on the same day in support of Jumpstart’s mission: to work toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. In 2006,Jumpstart launched the first Read for the Record campaign with the classic story, “The Little Engine that Could.”

Arvest Bank employees will read to children at the Gentry Library. Becca Cross will be there at 2:30. She is the current Gentry Arvest Bank branch manager. Andrea Tun will be there at 3:15 and will be reading the Spanish version of “Otis.”
