Gravette school numbers comparable to last year’s

GRAVETTE - A total of 1,802 students were in attendance on the opening day of school at Gravette, Aug. 19. This does not include 42 pre-kindergarten children attending a special program offered by the school.

A grade-by-grade enumeration was not immediately available, but a tally of students in the four various schools shows fi gures comparable to last year.

In Glenn Duffy Elementary, which includes grades K, 1 and 2, 402 students were in attendance, compared to 390 last year.

In Gravette Upper Elementary, grades 3, 4 and 5, the total was 385 compared to 403 the previous year.

Gravette Middle School, grades 6, 7 and 8, total was 447, up from 439 last year.

Gravette High School, grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, total students attending was 568, one less than the 569 last year.

Although the fi rst-day attendance was less than had been expected by preenrollment estimates, Oct. 1 is the date when fi gures normally stabilize and the numbers on that date are used by the state to measure student population.

At the end of last school year, the student population totaled 1,801.

Several positions are still available for pre-kindergarten students, and parents who may be interested in enrolling their children may secure information from the administrative office about the program.
