Decatur Chamber opens recruiting drive

DECATUR -- When members of the original Decatur Development Committee formed the first Chamber of Commerce in 1953, they had but one goal in mind, to draw new businesses to this fledgling community. More than 60 years later, the Decatur Chamber continues to recruit new business while assisting the current establishments to grow and prosper.

Programs are offered by the Chamber to assist Decatur area businesses to keep up with current changes in business laws and practices, government regulations and financial questions. These programs can help Decatur businesses better serve the community and themselves.

The Chamber meets on the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Gallery Cafe on Main Street in Decatur. The community room at city hall is an alternate meeting site when special programs are scheduled.

Business memberships are $25 and individual memberships are $10 a year.

The Chamber is working with the newly formed Decatur Economic Committee (an outgrowth of the Decatur Development Committee) to upgrade services it offers to better serve the community.

Several events like the Decatur Barbecue, Christmas Festival and Easter Egg Hunt are sponsored by the Decatur Chamber and offer great opportunities for area businesses to promote their products and services.
