Softball Sign-ups

Gravette Summer Baseball/Softball Organization is taking registrations for the spring and summer program which is open for boys, ages 4-15 on May 1, and girls, 4-16, on Jan. 1. Registration will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Arvest Bank conference room. Registration can also be completed at the Gravette Middle School gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25. Applicants may also register online and pay their fees with a credit or debit card at www.leaguelineup.com/gravette. A $3 fee will be added for processing. The fee for 4-12 year-old boys and girls is $35; 13-15 boys' fee is $75; and 13-16 girls' fee is $50. New this year is a maximum family fee of $100. After Jan. 31 there will be a $10 late charge per player. Sign-up must be completed by Jan. 31 to guarantee the child has a place to play on a team. Tryouts will be held in February. Umpires and volunteer coaches may sign up at the same email address listed above. Gentry Silent Auction

The Gentry High School Academic Booster Club will have its silent auction on Tuesday, Jan. 21, during the Gentry/Gravette basketball game. If you have an item or service you would like to donate, please contact Pat Barnes at 736-2714 or Martha Hawkins at 736-2667.

Life Sunday

The Pioneer Church of God (Holiness) will be holding a Sanctity of Human Life Sunday event at 11 a.m. on Jan. 19. This service is set aside to focus on the intrinsic value of human life, including the life of unborn children. The church is located just north of the Gentry police station, at 104 North Collins. WCTU Meeting set

There will be a meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Woman's Christian Temperance Union at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31. This is a meeting of the local chapter of the WCTU, which is a worldwide organization organized by women who were concerned about the destructive power of alcohol and the problems it was causing their families and society. The purpose of the meeting is to educate about the harm that alcohol causes and to work against government policy that encourages alcohol and drug use. The meeting will be held in the home of one of the members, at 10896 Northfork Drive, just off Mount Olive Drive, between Decatur and Gravette. GED Prep Classes

Free GED prep classes and testing will be held at the Gravette Library from Jan. 13-May 16. Classes are from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the library, 407 Charlotte St. S.E., in Gravette. Classes are open enrollment. Students may start any time and finish when they are ready. Call 986-6911 or simply show up to enroll in class.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur Food Pantry is open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The pantry offers free food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located inside the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring identification and a current utility bill in their name with a Decatur address. For more information, contact 752-3551.

UCC Food Pantry

United Christian Charities has opened a food pantry in downtown Decatur, across from Decatur State Bank, for anyone needing food in the northwest Arkansas area. The hours of operation are Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The point of contact is Tina Holt, 435-5699.

Maysville Pantry

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church opens its food pantry, Our Healing Hearts, every fourth Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for those in need.

Church Singing

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts, the pastor, at 752-7082.

Praise and Worship

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church holds a praise and worship service at 6 p.m. every third Sunday night, with refreshments following.

Tired Iron

Regular meetings of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks are held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Tired Iron clubhouse, located at the club's show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road southwest of Gentry.

Gravette Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Billy V. Hall Wellness and Activity Center on Limekiln Road in Gravette. New members are welcome.

Gentry Lions Club

Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the McKee Community Room, in the Gentry Public Library, on Main Street at N. Collins Ave. New members and visitors are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

VFW Meetings Decatur

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly's Hill Road.

Chamber Awards

Gentry's Annual Awards Night will be Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant in Gentry. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m., and the program will begin at 7:15 p.m. The chamber is currently taking nominations for 2013 Outstanding Volunteer, 2013 Outstanding Businessperson, 2013 Outstanding Civic Organization, 2013 Rookie of the Year and 2013 Outstanding Citizen. The Chamber of Commerce board of directors will vote on the nominations. Deadline for nominations is Jan. 30. The chamber is also taking nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Awards. The purpose of this award is to honor those who have made a positive impact on Gentry and to make sure they are not forgotten in the town's history. It is suggested that the honorees lived and/or worked and/or volunteered in the community for a minimum of 25 years. Nominations can be living or deceased individuals.
