DECATUR -- One high and three junior high students from Decatur have made the 2014 all-region band.

"Six students from Decatur competed head-to-head against students from all of the schools in our area, including Bentonville and Rogers," Kristin Wages, Decatur band director, said. "We had a very strong showing and are very proud of these students and a job well done."

Ger Vang, a senior high school student who delighted the crowds with his beautiful solo during the Decatur Christmas Festival in December, took first band, first chair in the flute.

Since Vang placed in the top spot in first band, he qualified for an audition for the Arkansas All State Band on Feb. 8 at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

Three Decatur students placed well in the junior high competition. Isabel Rodriguez took first band, ninth chair, clarinet. Ryan Shaffer took first band, second chair, tenor sax, while fellow band member, Dylan Frydrychowski, took second band, fifth chair, trumpet.

These students will participate in a region band clinic on the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 24, in Mountain Home.

On Jan. 25, they will perform in concert at Mountain Home High School. The concert starts at 2 p.m.
