GENTRY -- Two Gentry Odyssey of the Mind teams competed at the regional and state level and earned the chance to compete at world finals in East Lansing, Mich. The teams left May 19 to represent Arkansas and traveled to Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich., where more than 800 top teams from 16 countries gathered to compete at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals.

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative competition in which teams solve a long-term problem in the form of an original skit, and a short-term "spontaneous" problem at the competition site. Students receive no assistance outside of their team members in solving problems.

Gentry started the year off with seven teams at the Northwest Arkansas Regional competition at John Brown University. All five teams who were eligible to compete at the state competition in Sherwood advanced from regionals.

The Gentry Middle School team, coached by Michelle Wade, took second place at state to advance to World Finals where it placed 19th out of 65 teams.

The Gentry Intermediate School team, coached by Emily Hodges and Sarah Hogan, also took second place in its division and problem to advance to World Finals where it placed 25th out of 68 teams.

The Gentry Middle School team includes Gavin Taylor, Cory Hockenberry, Brently Wade, Darien Welch, Victoria Barnes and Ashlyn Little. The Gentry Intermediate School team included Jaylin Calcott, Averie Jeffus, Makenzie Riley, Cary Tromp, Dillon Owens, Tucker Hodges and Tarren Christie.

Gentry Odyssey of the Mind program thanks all parents, family members and sponsors for their help and support throughout the Odyssey of the Mind 2015 season.
