PAWS award winners chosen at Glenn Duffy Elementary

GRAVETTE -- "Pawsitive" and Wise Students (PAWS) award winners were honored at the monthly Rise and Shine assembly Monday, Oct. 2, at Glenn Duffy Elementary School. PAWS grade level Students of the Month for October are Jack Cantrell and Bella Forest, kindergarten; Wyatt Clayton and Paden Lemonds, first grade; and Rhett Curtis and Erynn McGee, second grade.

First-grade students led portions of the assembly, and staff members and guests celebrated as the students were recognized for class and individual awards. The Glenn Duffy Elementary PAWS Program incorporates character education and positive behavior into the school community. Each month PAWS skills are chosen and discussed in classroom guidance in relation to character education. School staff members always watch for opportunities to encourage students for their excellent character, behavior or effort.

Classroom PAWS winners in kindergarten are Avery Kuhlman, Jack Cantrell, Keeley Brown, Brentley Rogers, Bella Forest, Seceda Childres, Regan Osburn, Layton Magee, Brylie Flynn, TC Franlkin, Aurora Allen, Eli Phillips, Kenzie Baker and Kyis Page. First-grade winners are Quinton Thurlo, Reagan Woolard, Easton Crane, Molly Flynt, Wyatt Clayton, Dylila Bartleson, Kimmy Hungate, Asher Valentine, Allie Merworth, Cash Staats, Paden Lemonds, Isaiah Cordeiro, Laughter Galloway and Nathaniel Wilhelm. Second-grade winners are Logan Heikes, Maddie Thompson, Katherine Quintana, Rhett Curtis, Calvin Bird, Addison Mussen, Bella Alexander, Will Gillespie, Carter Roughton, Kyleigh Bird, Logan Hall and Josie Harris.

The Gravette Kiwanis Club partners with Glenn Duffy to recognize students as Terrific Kids each month. Terrific Kids in kindergarten are Emily Bright, Jackson Hunter, Ava Seusy, Bently Graham, Gabriel Abelar, Gabby Meyer, Braden Handle, Norah Grace Lowry, Paisell Weems, Masyn Walker, Kira Landon, Lukas Easley, Wrangler Arrendondo and Gavin Rose. First-grade Terrific Kids are Asher Sisemore, Ashlynn Mitchell, Mykhael Stone, Emily Blevins, Mason Truman, Madison Arnold, Landon White, Jacelyn Brewer, Briele Ruiz, Dylan Sanders, Maddison Brannan, Hayden Killbreth, Emeri White and Colter Gillming. Second-grade winners are Hayden Heller, Graci Weems, Addie Long, Jason Downing, Nicolai Douglas, Kyleigh Stephens, Evelyn Bailey, Jack Frizzell, Makayla Cervantes, Canaan Johnson, Luces Heikes and Erynn McGee.

The character word for this month is self-control. This is defined as showing restraint over our impulses, emotions or desires. Gravette basketball coaches Will Pittman and Matt Busch brought several of their players to Glenn Duffy. They discussed how using self-control guides students to make good choices and form healthy habits. "It's not who we are underneath, but what we do that defines us," said Batman.

First-grade teachers taught about this month's social skill, how to interrupt. Steps to practice this skill include 1) Decide if you need to interrupt, 2) walk up to the person you need, 3) make eye contact and wait for your turn, 4) say "Excuse me" and wait again. First-grade teachers are Tera Leroy, Candis Jones, Andrea Nall, Tina Wellesley, Tabby Crane, Amanda White and Margaret Martin.
