Siloam Springs Christmas Honors

Siloam Springs American Legion Post 29 is inviting the community to help honor service men and women this Christmas. Family, friends and volunteers will help transform Oak Hill Cemetery by placing one wreath on each of the more than 700 veteran headstones in honor of veterans. A wreath assembly workshop will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the meeting room in John Brown University's Simmons Great Hall. From 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, will be a private time for families to lay wreaths on their loved one's headstones. A public ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., and immediately following the ceremony attendees will be asked to lay wreaths on all remaining headstones. Wreath pick up and storage is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the meeting room in John Brown University's Simmons Great Hall. Retirement reception set for Gentry librarian

Darla Threet has announced her retirement as the librarian at Gentry Public Library. Her retirement reception will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, at the Gentry Public Library, and all are invited to stop by and wish her well and thank her for her 20 years of service to the library and the Gentry Community.

Annual Toy Toss set for Dec. 14 in Gentry

Gentry High School's student council is hosting its fourth annual toy toss to collect toys for the Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter at the basketball game in Gentry on Friday, Dec. 14. New stuffed and other non-breakable toys, as well as gift cards to retail clothing stores, may be brought to the Gentry-Pea Ridge basketball game and tossed to the floor of the basketball court when the Gentry varsity girls score their first goal in the game. Collection bins will also be available in the lobby, and donations may be dropped off at the high school campus. The Academic Booster Club will also be holding a silent auction fundraiser at the game.

Live Nativity planned at Ozark Adventist Academy

A walk-through live nativity will again be held at Ozark Adventist Academy from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. The nativity scene offers visitors a journey back in time to the streets of Bethlehem and to Calvary. A fully-costumed cast of more than 100 people, as well as animals and live music, is planned to bring the story of Christ's birth, life, crucifixion and resurrection to life. Golf carts will be available for those unable to walk through the settings. Non-perishable food items will be collected to be given to those in need through the food pantry at Total Life Community Center, located just south of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 59.

Free testing for blood pressure, blood sugar levels and pulse oximetry levels will be given from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, located at 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette. Everyone is eligible to have the free testing whether they are patrons of the Center or not.

cinnamon roll sale

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center will be taking orders for Christmas cookies and cinnamon rolls through Tuesday, Dec. 18. Call 479-787-5950 to order cookies for $10 a dozen or cinnamon rolls, $1.50 each or $18 a dozen. Cookie flavors available are oatmeal raisin, oatmeal cranberry walnut, peanut butter, sugar cookies, chocolate chunk, snickerdoodle, macadamia nut and white chocolate cherry. An assorted pack is available which includes oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, sugar cookies and chocolate chunk. Orders will be available for pickup on Friday, Dec. 21, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Center, located at 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette. All proceeds will go to the Center's Meals on Wheels program and daily operations.

UM Church Christmas Eve service

The congregation of the Gravette United Methodist Church invites the public to worship with it at its Christmas Eve Service of Holy Communion and Candlelight. The service will be held at 4:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 24, at the church, 201 Akron Street N.E.

Gentry Quilt Show

set for Jan. 11-18

The annual Gentry Chamber of Commerce Quilt Show has been set for Jan. 11-18 in the McKee Community Room at Gentry Public Library. Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and admission is free. TOPS meet in Gentry

Gentry TOPS AR113, a non-profit group which promotes healthy weight loss, meets every Monday at the First Christian Church Fellowship Room, Second and Giles, with a weigh in at 2:15 p.m. and the meeting at 3 p.m. There is a small fee to join but the first meeting is free.

First Baptist holds food pantry in Decatur

First Baptist Church, located at 213 E. Roller Avenue in Decatur, holds a community food pantry on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the church at 479-752-3514.

Decatur UMC pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. Also available is a USDA commodity program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. The commodity program requires income information. GFA food pantry

open Tuesdays

The GFA food pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partners with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. The Gravette Lions Club meets at 12:15 p.m., the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Singing services set at Falling Springs church

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.
