Questions about fire dues answered

GRAVETTE -- Many local residents have had questions regarding notices they are receiving about their annual fire dues, according to Mallory Weaver, assistant to the mayor. These questions may be arising because notices about dues were sent out by parcel and not by property owner this year, Weaver said.

Because of the change in the notification, a property owner owning more than one piece of land will be receiving more than one notice, one for each parcel he or she owns. Two followup notices will also be sent, 30 days and 60 days after the original notification.

Anyone living outside the corporate city limits is encouraged to pay annual fire dues. Dues are $30 per parcel. Persons living inside the corporate city limits are already Gravette Fire District members.

In case any fire protection services are required, members who have paid annual fire dues will not be billed for any remaining balance after insurance has paid. Non-members will be billed at the standard rate. Some insurance companies offer a reduction in premiums for fire protection district members, according to information distributed by the fire department.

Fire dues notices should have been received by mail. Payment may be made by mail or in person at city hall, 604 First Avenue S.E.

Anyone still having questions may call 479-787-5757.
