Lady Bulldogs gain valuable experience in Joplin volleyball camp

DECATUR -- The Decatur High School Lady Bulldogs volleyball team traveled to Joplin, Mo., to participate in the two-day Licking Summer Volleyball camp held on the campuses of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin and Webb City High School.

The Licking Summer Camp program was founded in 1993 and provides coaches and players an inexpensive, organized and competitive setting for off-season improvement in volleyball and basketball.

New head volleyball coach Tajhe Turner took the Lady Bulldogs team (beginning its fourth season) to the camp in hopes of improving its understanding of the sport and giving the players valuable preseason match experience.

At the end of each day, the Lady Bulldogs faced six volleyball teams from Archie (Mo.), Marionville (near Springfield), McAubey (near Carthage), Jasper (near Lamar), Galena (near Monett), and Neosho, Mo.

Fortunately for Decatur fans, the Lady Bulldogs were able to pull off one win of the 12 matches in which they participated during the two days of the camp.

The Decatur Lady Bulldogs begin the 2018 season at home Aug. 21 against the Eureka Springs Lady Highlanders in a 4:30 p.m. contest in the new gym at Decatur Middle School. The gym is scheduled for completion Aug. 13, the first day of classes. Check the Decatur School District's website at www.decatursd.com for any changes in match locations.
