Storm spotter training on March 14

Benton County Storm Spotter training is scheduled for 7 p.m. on March 14 at the Walmart Auditorium at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville. The public is welcome to attend. The National Weather Service will be conducting storm spotter training for members of police and fire departments, emergency management officials, local news outlets and amateur radio operators on spotting techniques. The goal of the training is not to just recognize tornadoes, but to have some understanding of storm structure, which in turn better prepares the spotter for the extreme and unusual circumstances. Other topics to be covered include an update on the latest NWA technology and procedures, ideas for organizing and coordinating spotter groups and important safety considerations.

Gentry planning annual chamber banquet

The Gentry Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant. Tickets are $25 each. Mother-Son Dance set in March

The Gentry junior high cheerleaders will be sponsoring the annual Mother-Son Dance on March 10 for children, kindergarten through the sixth grade. The cost is $15 for parent and child ($5 for each additional child) and money can be turned in at any Gentry campus office in an envelope marked "DANCE." Gravette Church of God (Holiness)

The Church of God (Holiness), located at Fourth and Atlanta in Gravette, will be in revival through March 11. The evangelist is Ben Colburn from Bedford, Ind. Ben and his wife Sue will sing as well. Ben and Sue were in the evangelistic ministry and pastorate for many years. Though they are semi-retired, they continue involvement in ministry. AARP Driver's Safety Class set for March 9

Space is available for the AARP Driver's Safety Class on Friday, March 9, from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital's Classroom 1 at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-AARP members. Payments by cash or check are due the day of the class. Snacks and beverages provided. Classes are designed for drivers 55 and older. Completion of the course qualifies students for auto insurance discounts in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Those interested in signing up may call 479-215-3125.

Behavioral health seminar is March 13

Faith Berry, a licensed professional counselor of Healthy Horizons will speak about mental health diagnoses vs. bad behaviors. Berry will discuss how knowing the difference will affect whether to provide treatment or consequences. The talk starts at 12:15 p.m. March 13, at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital's classroom 1. Friendly Neighbors celebrate 60 years with park event

The Friendly Neighbors Club of Sulphur Springs is inviting area residents to come at 1:30 pm on March 17, 2018, to the Sulphur Springs City Park and enjoy celebrating the club's 60 years of community service with live music and special events sponsored by the club.

Diabetic Nutrition Class set for March 26

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital will present a diabetic nutrition class and free luncheon at noon on Monday, March 26. The "Get Your Plate Into Shape" class is located in the Siloam Springs Regional Hospital classroom 1, at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. Lunch is provided.

Take Control of Your Health talk is March 29

Dr. Patrick Schiefelbein of Surgical Associates of Siloam Springs will discuss the importance of colonoscopies, at what age they are recommended and the process from first appointment to the procedure and what one will learn at the follow-up appointment. The event will be at 12:15 p.m. March 29, in SSRH's classroom 1. Dr. Schiefelbein is a member of the Siloam Springs Regional Hospital medical staff.

Openings exist on Gravette library board

Three openings exist on the Gravette Public Library advisory board. Positions are for five-year terms. Applicants must live in the Gravette School District. The board meets monthly at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month. Free GED prep classes

Free classes to prepare people for taking the GED exam are being offered through May 11 at the Gravette Public Library. Classes will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday evenings only, at the library, 119 Main Street S.E. Interested persons may enroll by calling 479-986-6911 or by attending the class. Classes are open enrollment. Students may start anytime and finish when they are ready.

Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. Also available is a USDA commodity program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry AG church

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs, and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies, are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Lions Club meetings set in Gravette, Gentry

The Gravette Lions Club meets at noon, the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned at Falling Springs church

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Museum seeks school yearbooks

The Gravette Historical Museum Commission is trying to acquire Gravette High School yearbooks to add to the museum's collection. Annuals are still needed for the years 1977, 1979, 1984, 1998 and 1999. Those willing to donate the above annuals are asked to call museum commissioner Lavon Stark at 479-787-5678.
