GENTRY -- The junior class won the annual powderpuff football tournament at Gentry High School, defeating the seniors, 6-0, in overtime.
The tournament was played in Pioneer Stadium on the afternoon of Oct. 3, with the boys serving as cheerleaders and the girls taking to the gridiron for the flag-football competition.
Finishing regulation time with no score in the junior-senior championship game, each team was given four downs from the 20-yard line. The juniors scored a touchdown but failed in their extra-point attempt, and the seniors couldn't quite get it done and finished the game scoreless.
In earlier games, the seniors defeated the freshmen, 14-0, and the juniors defeated the sophomores, 20-0, leading up to the championship game between the junior and the senior girls.
The juniors were led in offense by the break-away runs of Ahrya Reding and the strong defensive play of Meledy Owens.
