Lady Lions overrun Lady Bobcats for conference win

GRAVETTE -- The Lady Lions softball team got off to a great start April 1 when Gravette played host to the Lady Bobcats from Berryville at the softball field in Gravette. The results? One more game placed in the win column for Gravette.

Shylee Morrison put the Lady Lions in the driver's seat early with a single, bringing a Gravette runner across the plate in the bottom of the first inning for the first run of the contest. One more run by the Lady Lions put them up by two at the end of the inning.

Gravette's big inning came in the bottom of the fourth when the Lady Lions brought three runs home and extended their lead to five. The Bobcats tried to get back into the contest in the top of the sixth and seventh innings, with a solo run in each, but the Lady Lions held on for the conference win, 5-2.

Gabbi Scott, Hannah Cole and Lexi Gerner led Gravette with two hits each. Scott, Morrison, Gerner and Sumer Kaba each picked up one RBI.

Bailey Elmore took the mound for the Lady Lions, completing five innings and delivering 67 pitches. She allowed three hits, no runs, no earned runs, and struck out seven. She was relieved in the sixth inning by Cally Kildow, who completed the game with 39 pitches. She allowed four hits, two runs, two earned runs, while striking out four and walking two.

In the second game of the week, played April 2, Cally Kildow pitched a no-hitter against the Harrison Lady Goblins at Harrison.

In the batting department, Gravette got off to a good start with a run in the first inning. Six runs in the third inning gave the Lady Lions command of the game. With the bases loaded in the third, Hannah Cole hit a grand slam home run to increase the margin to seven. The Lady Lions scored three more runs in the sixth inning to claim the second conference victory of the week, 10-0.

Gabbi Scott led the Lady Lions with three runs on three hits, with one run batted in. Lexi Gerner and Shaylee Morrison had two runs on two hits and one run batted in for each.

Gravette had 26 at-bats, 10 runs, nine hits, seven runs batted in, with five walks and four strikeouts.

Kildow pitched the entire game, delivering 78 pitches. She allowed no hits, no runs, no earned runs, no walks and had eleven strikeouts.

The Lady Lions traveled south for a two-game series in the Greenbrier Softball Tournament April 5.

In game one, Gravette faced the Lady Eagles from Vilonia. The Lady Eagles took the game, 6-3, over the Lady Lions.

Gravette had 27 at-bats, three runs on eight hits with three runs batted in, five walks and two strikeouts.

Lexi Gerner was on the mound for the Lady Lions, pitching four innings and delivering 66 pitches. She allowed four runs on four hits with two earned runs. She struck out four and allowed a home run. Gerner was replaced by Taylor Snow, who complete two innings, throwing 18 pitches. She allowed two hits, two runs, two earned runs and one home run.

In game two, the Lady Lions faced host team, the Lady Panthers. The Lady Lions prevailed, taking the victory, 11-7, in the ninth inning of the contest. Cally Kildow led the way with two runs, two hits and one run batted in.

Gravette had 60 at-bats 11 runs, 15 hits, nine runs batted in, four walks, and two strikeouts.

Bailey Elmore was on the mound for the Lady Lions. She pitched five complete innings and threw 75 pitches. She allowed eight hits, four runs, two earned runs and had two strikeouts. Kildow took the mound in the sixth inning and completed the remaining four innings. She threw 65 pitches, allowed two hits and one run and struck out four.
