Gentry FFA Plant Sale

The Gentry High School FFA will hold its third annual Pioneer Plant Sale at the greenhouse behind the high school from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on April 18 and 19. The sale will include bedding plants such as begonia, vinca, impatiens and coleus; vegetables, including peppers, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, strawberries and herbs; hanging plants such as Boston ferns, wandering Jew, purple heart, Swedish ivy, spider plants and petunias; and other plants such as citronella, aloe vera, geranium, jade, mother of thousand, kalanchoe and leopard lilies. Money raised will benefit the local FFA.

Program offers energy saving tips

The Gravette Public Library will sponsor a talk on "Managing Home Energy Use" from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18. Suggestions will be offered for increasing energy efficiency and saving money. The library is located at 119 Main St. S.E.

Cemetery cleanup

The Falling Springs Cemetery will hold its annual cleanup day on Saturday, April 20, at 9 a.m. Patrons of the cemetery are asked to bring tools and come and help. A board meeting will follow the cleanup.

Free quilt class

A free class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving Street S.W. in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block, and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

NAGS to Meet

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 22, at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main St. in Bentonville. Marie Demeroukas, photo archivist at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale since 2005, will present "Put Your Relatives in Their Place: Preserving Family Photos." Boys & Girls Club

Registration opened for the two summer sessions of the Western Benton County Boys & Girls Club in Gentry. Session 1 runs from June 3through June 28. Session 2 runs from July 8 through July 26. Annual spring cleanup

Gravette's annual spring cleanup will be held from April 29 through May 4. Self-service dumpsters will be available at the City Shop and at the Hiwasse Park. Dumpsters at the City Shop will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. Dumpsters at Hiwasse will be open from dawn to dusk during the cleanup. A separate dumpster for discarding electronic items will be set up in the parking lot at the Police Department.

Clothing collection

Bright Futures Gravette is collecting gently-used and new jeans and Gravette apparel during the month of April to give to students in need this fall. There is always a need for boys and girls sizes 6-14. The clothing will be distributed during the Back to School Bash in August. Watch for collection drives at area churches or place items in the collection barrel at the school administration office, 609 Birmingham St. S.E. For more information, call 479-644-7492.

Sulphur Springs Easter, cleanup

An Easter egg hunt for area children, sponsored by the Sulphur Springs fire department, will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 20, in the Sulphur Springs Park. Also, Mayor Shane Weber has announced that the annual Sulphur Springs spring cleanup will be held April 26 through 28.

DAG Easter Egg Eggstravaganza

Decatur Assembly of God, located at 675 N. Main St. in Decatur, will host its annual "Easter Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza" at 1 p.m. on April 20. The event is for children, 0-12, and will have five divisions and hunting areas (including an area designated for children with special needs). There will be more than 5,000 eggs to hunt, including prize eggs and grand-prize eggs in each division. The community is welcome.

Gentry EasterEgg Hunt

The annual Easter egg hunt sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, in Gentry City Park. The hunt is for children up to age 10 and offers treats for all and prizes for winners in each age category.

Highfill Easter Egg Hunt

Highfill's annual Easter egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, in Highfill's city park.

Spring Crankup

Tired Iron of the Ozarks will hold its 27th annual Spring Crankup from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20, at the club's showgrounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road, in Gentry. The event will feature a parade of power at noon each day, hit and miss engines, a log cabin and outhouse, a working blacksmith shop and sawmills, rope making, home furnishings and lots of antique tractors, equipment and tools. This year's spring show will give special attention to garden tractors and Waterloo engines. A silent auction will be held Friday through Saturday at 3 p.m. Admission to the show and parking are free.

Library April amnesty

The Gravette Public Library will waive fees for all overdue books and library materials during the month of April. Undamaged overdue materials may be returned to the circulation desk at the library, 119 Main St. S.E., or placed in drop boxes located by the Gravette Civic Center and in front of the Bank of Gravett branch at Hiwasse. Shred event

An Earth Day shred event will be hosted by Grand Savings Bank in Gentry from 12 to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 22. The event offers free shredding of papers and documents for individuals and businesses.

Easter yeast roll sale

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center is taking orders for fresh yeast rolls. Order now for Easter dinner. Cost is $5 per dozen. Orders may be placed for both white and wheat rolls by calling 479-787-5950 through Wednesday, April 17. Orders may be picked up between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, at the Center. Delivery is available to Gravette businesses. All proceeds go to the Center's Meals on Wheels program and daily operations.

National Day of Prayer

Thursday, May 2, is the National Day of Prayer. It will be observed in Gentry at 7 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, with a prayer breakfast. The church is located at 221 West Main Street. This year's speaker will be Steve McGuire. Everyone is invited to attend.

First Baptist Food Pantry

First Baptist Church, located at 213 E. Roller Avenue in Decatur, holds a community food pantry on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the church at 479-752-3514.

TOPS in Gentry

Gentry TOPS AR113, a nonprofit group which promotes healthy weight loss, meets every Monday at the First Christian Church Fellowship Room, Second and Giles, with a weigh in at 2:15 p.m. and the meeting at 3 p.m. There is a small fee to join but the first meeting is free.

Decatur UMC Pantry

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. Also available is a USDA commodity program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry

The GFA food pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partners with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Mobile Food Bank

The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank has added a stop in Gravette, at 10 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Billy V. Hall Complex. The stop is the eleventh mobile pantry in Northwest Arkansas. Food boxes, as well as fruits, vegetables and protein, are distributed to up to 90 households.

Decatur VFW Post

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. Guests are welcome.

Tired Iron Club

Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's show grounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at tiredironoftheozarks.org.

Lions Meetings

The Gravette Lions Club meets at 12:15 p.m., the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Kiwanis Club

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria inside Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Legion Meetings

Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are welcome. Persons interested in joining the American Legion, and especially Post 25, may contact the Gravette post at P.O. Box 476, Gravette, AR 72736.

Falling Springs Singing

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.
