Library to host Gentry birthday celebration on Saturday

— Gentry Public Library will be celebrating both the Gentry Christmas Parade and Gentry’s 125th birthday on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 5 p.m. until the end of the parade.

According to the CALS Encyclopedia of Arkansas, Gentry was created in 1894. The city submitted a petition for incorporation on March 23, 1895, and was formally incorporated by the state of Arkansas on July 9, 1898.

Beginning at 5 p.m., the library will be serving birthday cake and cider. A slide show of historical photos of Gentry will be played.

The library will be open during the parade and will continue to serve snacks. Pianist Burt Crume will be playing holiday songs before the parade.

During these events, everyone is welcome to visit the library, including the History Room. Artist Jennifer Hawkins’ work is on display in the History Room.

Also on view in the History Room is a WWI poster display from the Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibit.
