Pioneers get past Lions; Gentry girls fall

GRAVETTE -- The Pioneers outscored the Lions in the second half of the Jan. 29 game in Lion Field House to bring home a 58-50 win near the close of the regular season.

The Pioneers took an early lead, but the Lions came back to finish the first quarter up by one point, 19-18. Both teams scored 15 points in the second quarter, allowing the Lions to retain a one-point advantage at the halftime break.

But in the third quarter, the Pioneers took back the lead, scoring 12 to the Lions' seven, and added to the margin in the final quarter, 13-9, for the win.

Dylan Kilgore scored 23 points in the game for Gentry and had seven rebounds. Casey Bates and Blake Wilkinson had 10 points each.

On the Gravette side, Brayden Trembly had 11. Colby McCarthy had 10, and Kaleb Furlow had nine.

The Lady Lions edged ahead of the Lady Pioneers in Lion Field House, but the Lady Pioneers closed the gap and came close in the 42-38 game on Jan. 29.

Gentry jumped ahead, 8-7, on a pair of deuces by Jaydon Jarnagan, a free throw by Ariel Nix and a three-pointer by Randi Jo Bolinger.

By the half, Gravette was up by two, 19-17; and, at the end of three, it was Gravette 32 and Gentry 26.

And Bolinger led the scoring for Gentry in the final quarter with another trey, a pair of two-pointers and two free throws, but Gentry was unable to close the gap and lost the battle by four.

Leading the scoring for Gravette was Shylee Morrison with 13, Gabbi Scott with 11 and Jessica Bookout with nine.

On the Gentry side, Bolinger had 12, Jaydon Jarnagan seven, and Meledy Owens six. Nix picked up five points at the free-throw line.
