Lady Lions win two of three during Harrison tournament

DECATUR -- The Gravette Lady Lions were back in action after Christmas, traveling to Harrison to participate in the Lendel Thomas Classic basketball tournament held at Harrison High School Dec. 27-29. The Lady Lions played three games during the tournament, winning two and losing one to West Memphis in the championship round.

The event began Dec. 27 when Gravette paired off against local rival, the Bentonville West Lady Wolverines. The game was close throughout the 32-minute contest. In the end, the Lady Lions prevailed, winning, 53-48, over the Lady Wolverines.

Gravette advanced to the next round to square off against the Earle Lady Bulldogs Dec. 28. The Lady Lions jumped out in front and stayed there as Gravette took its second win of the tournament, defeating the Lady Bulldogs, 78-69.

The Lady Lions faced a tough West Memphis Lady Blue Devils team in the finals of the tournament Dec. 29. It was close for the Lady Lions but, in the end, the Lady Blue Devils pulled ahead by three with seconds left to play. The Lady Lions were unable to make up the deficit and were defeated by the West Memphis Lady Blue Devils, 61-58, in the final game of 2018 for Gravette.

The Gravette Lady Lions return to the competition gym in Gravette Jan. 11 to face the Lady Blackhawks of Pea Ridge in a 6 p.m. contest.
