GRAVETTE -- The competition gym was filled to near capacity Jan. 11 when Gravette gathered to cheer on the Lions as they faced rival Pea Ridge Blackhawks in the second conference contest of 2019. But disappointment soon filled the air as the Blackhawks defeated the Lions by 11.

A sea of orange T-shirts stretched around two-thirds of the gym as the Lions Booster Club sponsored its annual Orange Out Night 2019. Over 250 shirts were handed out to Lion fans before and during the two junior varsity games and before the start of the Lady Lions-Lady Blackhawks contest.

The Lions were the first to score on a free throw by Colby McCarthy at the 7:35 mark of the first quarter. The Lion team continued to build its lead over the Blackhawks early. At the halfway mark of the quarter, the Blackhawks hit a three-pointer, taking over the lead. By the end of the first quarter, the Blackhawks built a four-point lead, setting the tone for the remaining 24 minutes of the contest.

The Pea Ridge Blackhawks prevailed, taking the conference win 56-45 over the Gravette Lions.
