Track athletes compete in Lake Hamilton event

DECATUR -- A little over a week after the last athletes crossed the finish line in all seven conference state track meets, the state champions in each division gathered at Lake Hamilton for the Arkansas Meet of Champions May 11. Gravette, Gentry and Decatur sent state champs to compete in this yearly event.

Qualifying for the Gravette Lions this year were Sally Bird, Holly Robinson, Aiden Patton and both the 4x400-meter and 4x800-meter relay teams. Kerlose Ruzek was the only Gentry athlete to qualify for the meet. Desi Meek and Destiny Mejia were the only two from Decatur.

Several of these athletes came close to gold in the Meet of Champions. Patton brought home a silver medal in the shot put and a bronze in the discus. Meek from Decatur brought home a bronze medal in the 300-meter hurdles.
