Community Thanksgiving Service
Gentry's Community Thanksgiving Service will be hosted by First Baptist Church at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring finger foods for fellowship following the service.
Annual Christmas Bazaar
The Decatur United Methodist will have its annual Christmas Bazaar on Friday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a soup and sandwich lunch for $5, a bake sale, crafts, jewelry, and "gently-used" Christmas items.
Gravette Thanksgiving Dinner
Gravette area churches and businesses will sponsor the 11th annual Gravette community Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 23 in the cafeteria at Gravette High School. Dinner service begins at 11 a.m. and will continue through 1 p.m. This year's event will honor Evelyn McGraw.
Art Opening at the Library
Gentry Public Library invites the public to attend the reception for the opening of Jennifer Hawkins' Art at the Library Exhibit. Jennifer, a Gentry resident, is a self-taught artist who paints out of a passion to be creative. She has produced art since she was a child, and now she has developed her own art process. Each piece is individually created, some even glow in the dark. Jennifer's art show will open on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. and will be on display until the end of the year.
Book Reading/Signing with Ashley Franklin
Gentry Public Library invites everyone, especially children, to the reading and book signing of Northwest Arkansas resident Ashley Franklin from 3 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 22. Ashley's book is "Almost Snow White." If you've ever wondered if you were too anything, you'll relate to Tameika and her story. It's a completely delightful book. Books can be purchased at the event.
Libraries to conduct sweater drive
Gentry and Gravette public libraries will be participating in the AETN Mister Rogers Neighborhood Sweater Drive from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30. The libraries will be collecting new and gently-used sweaters and other cold-weather items to donate to local charities. Please bring items to the Gentry Library Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Saturday 9 a.m. to noon. Items may be brought to the Gravette Library Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Bella Vista patriotic concert
In observance of the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor which brought the United States into World War II and the September 11, 2001, attack on America, the NWA Jazz and More Orchestra will perform a concert of patriotic music at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. The program, which is free and open to the public, will feature the Honor Guard of Bella Vista. There are no tickets, no reservations. The concert is sponsored by the Veterans Council of Northwest Arkansas, the Bella Vista Property Owners Association and the band.
Free quilt, craft class
A free class for area quilters and craft enthusiasts will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in the annex building at the Gravette Church of Christ, 202 Irving Street S.W. Instructions on a quilt block will be given and a show and tell session will be held. Please bring completed projects or works in progress and a snack to share.
Gentry Christmas Parade
Gentry's annual Christmas Parade is set for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. This year's theme is "A Christmas Carol." The parade will line up and start east of Arvest Bank. Live Nativity planned at Ozark Adventist Academy
A free walk-through live nativity will again be held at Ozark Adventist Academy from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. The nativity scene offers visitors a journey back in time to the streets of Bethlehem and to Calvary. A fully-costumed cast of more than 100 people, as well as animals and live music, is planned to bring the story of Christ's birth, life, crucifixion and resurrection to life. Golf carts will be available for those unable to walk through the settings. Refreshments will be served. Non-perishable food items will be collected to be given to those in need through the food pantry at Total Life Community Center, located just south of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 59. Falling Springs Singing
Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.
First Baptist Pantry
First Baptist Church, located at 213 E. Roller Ave. in Decatur, holds a community food pantry on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the church at 479-282-6658.
TOPS in Gentry
Gentry TOPS AR113, a nonprofit group that promotes healthy weight loss, meets every Monday at the First Christian Church Fellowship Room, Second and Giles, with a weigh-in at 2:15 p.m. and the meeting at 3 p.m. There is a small fee to join but the first meeting is free.
GFA Food Pantry
The GFA food pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partners with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Tired Iron Club
Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's show grounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at tiredironoftheozarks.org.
Decatur VFW Post
VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. Guests are welcome.
Lions Meetings
The Gravette Lions Club meets at 12:15 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.
Kiwanis Club
The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria inside Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.
Legion Meetings
Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are welcome. Those interested in joining the American Legion, and especially Post 25, may contact the Gravette post at P.O. Box 476, Gravette, AR 72736.
