Veterans Recognition Program

The Gravette High School EAST program is partnering with R&R Packaging in a special project to recognize local veterans. Veterans may bring a picture of themselves in uniform to City Hall by Dec. 1. For more information, email [email protected].

Hiwasse Hometown Christmas

The community of Hiwasse will celebrate a Hiwasse Hallmark Christmas beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Hiwasse Store. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus are scheduled to attend the event, sponsored by John and Julie Holloway, owners of the Hiwassee Store and Tri-State Propane. Face painting for the youngsters, free hot cocoa, cider and popcorn will be provided. A decorated tree will be lighted during the evening.

Annual Christmas Bazaar

The Decatur United Methodist will have its annual Christmas Bazaar on Friday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a soup and sandwich lunch for $5, a bake sale, crafts, jewelry and "gently-used" Christmas items.

Libraries conducting sweater drive

Gentry and Gravette public libraries are participating in the AETN Mister Rogers Neighborhood Sweater Drive through Nov. 30. The libraries are collecting new and gently-used sweaters and other cold-weather items to donate to local charities. Please bring items to the Gentry Library Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Saturday 9 a.m. to noon. Items may be brought to the Gravette Library on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Christmas Tea set in Gentry

Gentry First Baptist Church invites the community to its annual Christmas Tea at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the FBC fellowship hall. It will include the sharing of faith from ladies present. The cost is $3. Please bring a teacup. RSVP to the church office at 479-736-2646 and pay at the door.

Gentry Christmas Parade

Gentry's annual Christmas Parade is set for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. This year's theme is "A Christmas Carol." The parade will line up and start east of Arvest Bank. Live Nativity planned at Ozark Adventist Academy

A free walk-through live nativity will again be held at Ozark Adventist Academy from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. The nativity scene offers visitors a journey back in time to the streets of Bethlehem and to Calvary. A fully-costumed cast of more than 100 people, as well as animals and live music, is planned to bring the story of Christ's birth, life, crucifixion and resurrection to life. Golf carts will be available for those unable to walk through the settings. Refreshments will be served. Non-perishable food items will be collected to be given to those in need through the food pantry at Total Life Community Center, located just south of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 59. Falling Springs Singing

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

First Baptist Pantry

First Baptist Church, located at 213 E. Roller Ave. in Decatur, holds a community food pantry on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the church at 479-282-6658.

TOPS in Gentry

Gentry TOPS AR113, a nonprofit group that promotes healthy weight loss, meets every Monday at the First Christian Church Fellowship Room, Second and Giles, with a weigh-in at 2:15 p.m. and the meeting at 3 p.m. There is a small fee to join but the first meeting is free.

GFA Food Pantry

The GFA food pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partners with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Tired Iron Club

Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's show grounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at tiredironoftheozarks.org.

Decatur VFW Post

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. Guests are welcome.

Lions Meetings

The Gravette Lions Club meets at 12:15 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. New members are welcome and invited.

Kiwanis Club

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria inside Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Legion Meetings

Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are welcome. Those interested in joining the American Legion, and especially Post 25, may contact the Gravette post at P.O. Box 476, Gravette, AR 72736.
