KCS Holiday Express coming to Decatur

DECATUR -- Trains, in various sizes, from full-size locomotives and rail cars to small scale models, have been a part of the Christmas season for almost 200 years. In the early years of the 20th century, the Lionel train sets were one of the most valued Christmas gifts a kid (adults too) could get. In the 21st century, train enthusiasts still line the track across the country to watch a variety of trains, from the steam locomotive to the big diesel engines.

Northwest Arkansas residents of all ages will get a chance to line the track near the Decatur Depot to see a very unique type of train, The Kansas City Southern Holiday Express, "complete with cheerful displays, lights and music. Kids can climb aboard the train, visit with Santa and receive a bag of seasonal goodies." (Holiday Express flyer)

The Holiday Express will chug its way into Decatur on Friday, Dec. 13, beginning at 4 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Kansas City Southern will make a contribution to the local Salvation Army to provide clothing and other necessities for kids in need in the Decatur area.
