Decatur plans citywide cleanup

DECATUR -- The city of Decatur will hold its annual fall cleanup on Thursday, Oct, 24. Residents need to have their collectible trash items out by the curb by 6 a.m. on that morning.

Some items that will be accepted during the pickup include household trash, furniture, carpet (if cut in 4-foot lengths and rolled up), mattresses and old toys. Items that will not be taken include old appliances such as television, stereo equipment, monitors and computers. Below is a list of some other items that are not accepted:

  • Automotive products such as antifreeze, batteries, motor oil, oil filters, transmission fluid, tires, lubricating/hydraulic oil and contaminated oils (mixed with solvents, gasoline, etc.);
  • Chemical products such as paint, flammable liquids, solvents, petroleum-contaminated soil/lead paint chips;
  • Hazardous waste including industrial waste and radioactive material, railroad ties, propane tanks and fluorescent tubes.
