Springtown Council hears updates

SPRINGTOWN -- Numerous updates were provided to the town council at its Aug. 13 meeting, according to draft minutes.

According to the minutes, the town's declaratory judgment appeal has been filed, the appellant's brief has been prepared and filed by George Rhoads and Associates for the town and the appellees have been granted an extension.

No update was given on the Bredehoeft Street Project, according to the draft minutes. The project depends largely on the success of the town's appeal of the circuit court's decision on the declaratory judgment.

Bredehoeft Low-water Bridge Replacement Project was reported to be underway, but no updates were presented on the project.

Excess money from the community grant used for storm sirens was spent on new tables and chairs for the community building, according to draft minutes. Town resident Paul Lemke requested the town donate the three old tables and eight old folding chairs to the Springtown Cemetery Association, and the council agreed. Lemke will schedule a time to pick up the donated items, according to draft minutes.

The petition for closures for unmaintained streets and alleys south of Arkansas Highway 12 is in progress, according to the draft minutes.

Mayor Terri Glenn reported that the town has purchased a lawnmower and weed trimmer, and Josh McGarrah will be working part-time to perform mowing and maintenance for the town.

Alderman David Clark requested that residents adhere to the speed limit and other traffic signs.

Charles Cramblett inquired about zoning, particularly in the flood plain area, and the potential use of property within the town. Mayor Glenn referred him to the floodplain manager for specific information.

Paul Lemke indicated that the right of way on Bredehoeft needs mowing and expressed his concerns about run-off on Wasson Road, south of the community building.

The September meeting was set for Tuesday, after press time.
