Gentry graduation on hold, grads to be honored

GENTRY -- With graduation plans still on hold for Gentry seniors, Gentry School Board unanimously approved a plan to purchase and place banners honoring each graduating senior on Gentry's Main Street.

The 18x60-inch banners will be displayed from the 48 light poles on Main Street. Each banner will honor three graduating seniors. Plans are to use the poles at both ends of the display for banners congratulating the Class of 2020.

Graduation ceremonies at John Brown University remain on hold during the covid-19 pandemic due to restrictions placed on large events.

According to Superintendent Terrie Metz, the school district is still committed to having graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 and is in ongoing talks with JBU. Metz said, if the district cannot hold graduation ceremonies at JBU, she would work to have ceremonies in Pioneer Stadium when it is safe to do so.
