Gravette HOSA students win medals at state

GRAVETTE -- Students in the Gravette High School HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) Club traveled to Hot Springs March 9-11 to compete in the Arkansas state HOSA competition. Fifty-eight students competed in various events, with eight students bringing home a medal and the opportunity to compete at the national competition in Houston in late June.

HOSA is an international organization working to promote career opportunities in the healthcare field and enhance the quality of healthcare. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education Division. Barbara Dimon, state HOSA director, has explained that it is very similar to Future Business Leaders of America, but with a focus on healthcare.

At HOSA competitions, students are able to compete in six different event categories -- health science, health professions, emergency preparedness, leadership, teamwork and recognition events.
