WESTSIDE -- In a news release on Friday, the Arkansas Activities Association extended the current dead period for sports through April 17 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The action cancels all scheduled high school sporting events through April 17 and prohibits teachers, coaches and volunteers from engaging in any kind of activity involving students, including practices, training, weightlifting, tryouts, competition or travel. It also requires all school athletic facilities to be closed during this period.
"The safety of our student-athletes is our first priority," the release states. "All decisions remain flexible and will be consistent with the advice of local, state and national officials."
