Mayor addresses Gentry citizens regarding the covid-19 outbreak

GENTRY -- The city of Gentry and its mayor, Kevin Johnston, are advising residents to follow the suggested precautionary steps on the Center for Disease Control website, www.cdc.gov, and the state health department's website, www.healthy.arkansas.gov.

The city website says, "City officials are watching the COVID-19 crisis ... We appreciate your cooperation in following best practices to keep our community safe."

It also offers help and assistance to those struggling to provide basic necessities.

"If you or someone you know is struggling with acquiring basic necessities during this national emergency, please contact City Hall at 479-736-2555 and we will work to connect you to those that can assist," the website states.

A March 17 message from Mayor Johnston and published on the city website, says:

"As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our city employees, community members and visitors safe from the potential threat of COVID-19, we are constantly re-evaluating procedures and practices within all departments. We recognize that for some, essential services go beyond police, fire/EMS, and water/wastewater services. It is our intent to provide any and all services to our citizenry as may be appropriate. However, the process to provide these services may be slightly altered from what is typically experienced."
