Gravette Fire Department to remember 9/11 fallen heroes

GRAVETTE -- The Gravette Fire Department will hold a September 11 remembrance ceremony to honor fallen firefighters this Friday, Sept. 11, at 8:45 a.m. This is the second year for the ceremony, which will take place in the parking lot of CV's Family Foods, at 200 First Ave. S.E.

Bagpiper David Ervin will start playing traditional fire funeral songs at 8:45, and Gravette fire chief David Orr will follow with a message about the importance of the day. At 8:49 a.m. local time, when the first tower fell, the lights on all emergency vehicles will be turned on, the bagpiper will play "Amazing Grace" and Gravette's fire and police departments will stand at attention for 3 minutes and 43 seconds to honor the 343 firefighters of the New York City Fire Department who were killed in the September 11 attacks.

The ceremony is expected to last 15 minutes and will be live-streamed on the Gravette Fire Department Facebook page. The public is encouraged to watch the live stream. Those choosing to watch the ceremony in person should adhere to Arkansas Department of Health guidelines.
