Gravette comes up swinging in 4A golf competition

WESTSIDE -- With football, volleyball and even cross country in full swing, it is easy to overlook one high school sport that is also well into its 2020 season.

The Gravette boys and girls golf teams' season is in full swing with both teams competing in a 4A golf tournament at the Fayetteville Country Club in Fayetteville Sept. 8. Besides Gravette, Gentry, Huntsville, Shiloh Christian, Berryville, Harrison and Pea Ridge participated in the one-day event.

In the Arkansas 4A conference golf, each team can have up to four golfers. The scores are tabulated by eliminating the highest score on each team and adding the remaining three individual scores together to get the team totals. The team with the lowest score wins the competition.

On the girls' side, the Lady Lions won the team event by 10 strokes.

The Gravette boys finished the tournament in second place, three strokes behind the Farmington Cardinals.

As for the individual scores, Gravette's Rachel Diehl finished with an 84 on the par 70 golf course. Jesse Frye tied for second with a 76, while teammate Keegan Bulza was two strokes behind with a 78. Braxton Muldoon finished the course with an 81.

The Gravette golf team's next tournament is at the Highlands Golf Course in Bella Vista Sept. 17 beginning at 3 p.m. The team will compete in the district meet Sept.12 at the Fayetteville Country Club in Fayetteville. Tee time for this event is 9 a.m.
