DECATUR -- The Decatur Lady Bulldogs squared off against last year's district volleyball champion, the Lavaca Golden Arrows, in the middle school gym in Decatur Sept. 8. The results favored the Golden Arrows with a victory in straight sets.
In the early going of the first set, the Lady Bulldogs held a slim one-point lead. But as the set progressed, Decatur found itself losing the lead and falling further and further behind as Lavaca began pounding back at the Lady Bulldogs. Lavaca took the first set, 25-13.
In the second set, the Lady Golden Arrows took control early, leaving the Lady Bulldogs in their dust and allowing Decatur only nine points during the set. Lavaca took the second set, 25-9, to lead Decatur two sets to none.
Decatur tried to get back into the third set, but Lavaca continued to control the match, eventually winning the final set, 25-12, to claim the match victory in three straight.
The Decatur Lady Bulldog volleyball team continues its home game schedule at the middle school gym, taking on Mansfield Sept. 15 and rival Eureka Springs Sept. 17. The junior high teams will open the night's event at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity playing immediately afterward.
