Donald James Coverston

Donald James Coverston, 89, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., formerly of Sulphur Springs, died March 25, 2021, at Havasu Regional Medical Center, Havasu City.

He was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Pittsburg, Kan., to James Bye Coverston and Ruby Coverston. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, receiving three medals. Additionally, he served another 18 years in civil service. He was president of the Chamber of Commerce and Sulphur Springs Improvement Association for many years. He was known for helping the community of Sulphur Springs by restoring the old school building where he went to school. He volunteered at The Old School on Sundays, serving lunches to raise money.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean, and his second wife, Willie, and granddaughter, Alecia Coverston.

He is survived by sons, Don Coverston, John (Karen) Coverston, Larry (Sheila) Coverston; eight grandchildren, Alecia Coverston, J.D. Coverston, Jeannie Coverston, Kristopher Coverston, Curea Coverston, Colman Coverston, Tricia (Peter) Katsur, Ashton Coverston; and great-grandson, Andrew Katsur.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 6, at GAR Cemetery in Sulphur Springs.
