GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers outplayed their guests from Prairie Grove on Feb. 1, picking up a big conference victory for the Gentry girls, 61-49.
Randi Jo Bolinger got the Lady Pioneers off to a big start on their win in the first quarter, sinking three treys and a deuce. She added another trey in each subsequent quarter to finish the game with 20 points, sharing that point number with Alyssa McCarty, who scored Gentry's other basket in the opening quarter to match the Lady Tigers' 13 points in the first round of play at Gentry High School.
The Pioneers pulled ahead by two before the halftime break on three-pointers by Bolinger and McCarty and another pair of baskets by McCarty and by Liberty Brannon and a goal by Darien Welch, making it 29-27.
The Lady Pioneers widened the lead in the third quarter with another 14 points to the Lady Tigers' eight. Bolinger hit her fifth trey of the night, and McCarty her second along with two goals. Jaiden Wilmoth added a goal and drew a foul for another two points at the free-throw line.
Though the Lady Tigers battled back and threatened in the final quarter, Wilmoth added a goal and five points at the free-throw line. McCarty added four more at the line and Brannon two. Lexie Fowler made a basket and Bolinger sunk her final three-pointer of the night, making the final score 61-49 in favor of Gentry.
Other high scorers in the game for Gentry included Wilmoth with 11 and Brannon with six.
BOYS
Prairie Grove 50, Gentry 22
The visiting Tigers from Prairie Grove made quick work of the Pioneers on Feb. 2, scoring 15 points in the opening quarter and holding the Pioneers scoreless.
In the second quarter, the Pioneers put eight points on the board, thanks to two treys sunk by Andrew Godfrey and a deuce by Jonathon Corter, but the Tigers added another 11 to lead the Pioneers 26-8 at the half.
After the break, the Pioneers scored 14 more points with Isaiah Lemke hitting a three-pointer in the third and Seiren Reding adding a pair of baskets from underneath, and then Addi Taylor hitting a three in the fourth and Isaiah Lopez putting in a pair of baskets.
But the Tigers built on their lead, scoring 16 in the third and another eight in the final quarter for the 50-22 win.
Andrew Godfrey was the high scorer for Gentry with six.
