GRAVETTE -- In their season finale, the Gravette Lion junior boys played host to the Farmington Cardinals at Lion Arena in Gravette Friday night. The Lion junior team went on two runs, one in the first and one in the fourth quarter, to end its season on a winning note.
Gravette's Brooks West hit a field goal 30 seconds into the contest for the first points for the Lions. With 3:50 left in the first quarter, Farmington landed its first field goal of the night. The Lions held the Cardinals to five points throughout the quarter while going on a run late to give Gravette a 13-5 lead going into the second quarter.
Gravette continued its run in the first part of the second quarter until a technical on a Farmington player at the 2:25 mark sent Braxton Muldoon to the line for two free throws. Muldoon hit both shots but the technical energized the Cardinals and soon the team made a run on Gravette. By the end of the first half, Farmington cut the Gravette lead to four going into the break.
Gravette held on to its lead through the third quarter. But, early in the fourth, Farmington pulled to within one point, threatening to take over the lead. Gravette managed to fight off both challenges to claim its final 2020-21 season contest victory, 42-36, over the Farmington Cardinal junior team.
Rhett Hilger led the scoring drive with nine points, followed by Benjamin Munoz, Brooks West and Braxton Muldoon with seven each, Isaiah Larson with five, William Betz with three, Andrew Lindsey and Bart Walker, each with two.
