Pioneers, Lady Pioneers fall at Prairie Grove

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers matched the Lady Tigers at 7 in the opening quarter at Prairie Grove on Jan. 12 with a pair of goals from Randi Jo Bolinger and Emily Toland and a 3-pointer by Alyssa McCarty, but then they slowly began slipping behind until the Lady Tigers finished with the victory, 35-27.

Prairie Grove scored only five points in the second quarter of the low-scoring game but finished the half over Gentry, 12-10. Jaiden Wilmoth put in two and Bolinger added a free throw in the quarter.

It was a close third quarter with Gentry picking up nine points on a trey and bucket by McCarty and a pair of goals by Emily Toland, but the Tigers eased ahead another point to finish three quarters of play up by three, 22-19.

And in the fourth, Lexie Fowler hit a 3-pointer, Wilmoth and McCarty each picked up a goal, and Liberty Brannon sunk a free throw to add 8 points to Gentry's total. But, once again, Prairie Grove eased further ahead, scoring 13 points, and taking the game by 8.

McCarty scored 10 points in the game. Toland added 6, Wilmoth 4, Fowler and Bolinger had 3 each, and Brannon 1.

Though scoring information was not available to the Eagle Observer at press deadlines, the Prairie Grove boys defeated Gentry, 44-12.
