Free skin cancer screenings planned

GRAVETTE -- Due to the popularity of the free skin cancer screening in May, Ozarks Community Hospital is repeating the service in June.

Dr. Hilton McDonald, who specializes in identifying and treating skin cancer, will be performing the evaluations from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the OCH Specialty Clinic on the second floor of the hospital.

Anyone who has skin conditions they are worried about, including new spots, red patches, itchy or painful spots, rough textures on the skin or sores that do not heal is invited to come, take advantage of the free screening.

"It is the perfect time for people to get something checked without having to make an appointment and wait to get in and see a dermatologist, especially if they don't have one yet," explained Amanda Gittlein, community outreach director at OCH. "Those appointments take months to get into."

Those interested in participating should contact the hospital at 479-344-6870 to reserve a time slot. Initial screenings are free but it is important to bring your photo ID and insurance card for OCH to have on file in case future treatment is needed following the screening. Dr. McDonald will discuss options with each patient.
