WESTSIDE -- The Decatur varsity boys' track team is well on its way to a possible state title after a good showing in the 2A-1 District Track meet in Eureka Springs on April 26.
Only three days after the Bulldog junior high boys' and girls' teams captured both runner-up trophies on the same track in Eureka Springs on April 23, some of the freshman runners such as Bryan Ruiz and Dayton McGarrah joined members of the senior team to capture the boys' runner-up trophy in the 2A-1 District meet.
Unfortunately for the senior girls' team, the number of participants hurt its effort to earn another district title this year. However, freshman Abigail Schopper shows promise as she tackled both the shot put and discus for the first time this season. Schopper managed a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 25 feet, eight inches, and third in the discus with a throw of 77 feet, four inches.
The Decatur track team will travel to Gurdon on May 5 to take part in the 2A State Track Meet.
