Pioneers cap homecoming with win

GENTRY -- The Pioneers kept their record spotless when they capped off the school's homecoming celebrations with a close win over Berryville in 4A-1 Conference action in Pioneer Stadium at Gentry High School.

The game followed homecoming ceremonies on the field and then a brief lightning delay.

Will Pyburn ran for 109 yards on 14 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Gentry (5-0, 2-0 4A-1). Addi Taylor added 76 yards on seven carries and scored the Pioneers' first touchdown when he broke free from a tight formation power play to run the ball all the way from midfield to the Berryville goal line.

The Gentry defense forced a number of Berryville turnovers, and defensive back Dawson Rayburn picked off three Bobcats passes to go along with three tackles. Antonio Hernandez had five tackles and four assists in the game.

The Pioneers had 245 rushing yards in the game and another 44 through the air.

Diego Seldana was 3 for 3 in PAT attempts. He missed one field goal from the far right side of the field.

The Pioneers were up 14-0 at the half and picked up another touchdown and point after in the final half of the Friday night game for the 21-15 win before a full house in Pioneer Stadium.

The Pioneers will travel to Green Forest on Friday.
