Lady Pioneers shut out West Fork, fall to Booneville, Van Buren

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers shut out West Fork in non-league play on Thursday but fell in tough games to Booneville on April 18 and at Van Buren on Friday.

In the final regular-season home game on Thursday, the Lady Pioneers not only honored their seniors but shut out their West Fork opponents in three innings, 15-0.

The Gentry girls scored six runs in the first inning, seven in the second and added two more in the third, finishing the rout with only one out on the board.

Gentry's 15 runs came on 10 hits in the game and five West Fork errors.

Kyleigh Wheaton was in the circle for the Lady Pioneers and threw a 35-pitch no-hitter. She struck out five batters and walked one.

Madi Voyles hit a home run in the game. Audrie Littlejohn, Evey Tomlinson and Kyleigh Wheaton were credited with doubles. Wheaton led in hits with three.

Faviola Lopez-Najar, Voyles and Cindy Barger each had two RBIs.

Booneville 8

Booneville scored seven runs in the second and another in the fourth to stop the Lady Pioneers even though the Gentry girls fought back with five runs in the fourth, with no more runs scored in the final three innings of the game.

The Lady Pioneers struggled with errors, with six charged against them, however, most of Booneville's runs came as a result of solid hitting, with 10 hits in the game, to Gentry's seven.

Kyleigh Wheaton hit three doubles in the game and brought home one run. Mazzi Jones drove in two. Wheaton also pitched for the Lady Pioneers and was only able to strike out two. Booneville's pitcher struck out 12 Gentry batters.

Van Buren 9

The Lady Pioneers scored six runs on 14 hits at Van Buren on Friday, but that was not enough for the win. Gentry fell to Van Buren, 9-6, after six and a half innings of play.

Mazzi Jones had four hits in the game and Kyleigh Wheaton three. Each had an RBI. Three of Jones' hits were triples, Wheaton had two doubles.

Wheaton threw 108 pitches, struck out two and walked two in the game.
