Pioneers win two but fall on Saturday

GENTRY -- After wins at Elkins on April 19 and defeating Harrison at home on Friday, the Pioneers fell on Saturday when hosting the Northwest Arkansas Hornets.

The Pioneers scored two in the first, one each in the fourth and seventh, and four in the fifth and six in the sixth for a 14-5 win at Elkins on April 19.

Overall, the Pioneers scored their 14 runs on 13 hits in the game. Elkins scored their five runs on 11 hits.

Starting on the mound and credited with the win was Isaiah Lemke. He pitched for three innings, struck out seven and walked one. Alec Pearson and Drew Nash each pitched two innings of relief for the Pioneers.

Lemke and Crafton Beeler led the Pioneers with their bats in the game. Lemke had four hits and two RBIs. Beeler had three hits and five RBIs. Both had a home run and two doubles in the game. Braden Feathers also had a home run.

On Friday the game was tied at one run apiece at the start of the seventh in Gentry. The Goblins failed to score in the top of the inning but Isaiah Lemke singled to center field in the bottom to bring in Hayden Henry, pinch-running for Dawson Rayburn who had walked as the leadoff batter.

Harrison scored its only run in the first and led until Gentry matched the run in the fifth when Alec Pearson singled with a bunt and later scored on a Riggs Harper groundout.

Gentry had eight hits in the game to Harrison's five.

Isaak Crittenden pitched the full seven-inning game and struck out 14, walking three.

The Pioneers hosted the Northwest Arkansas Homeschool Academy Hornets on Saturday and, though Gentry held the lead for almost the entire first six innings, the Hornets stung the Pioneers in the top of the seventh with five runs to take the game, 9-7.

Gentry scored its seven runs on five hits. The Hornets scored nine times on eight hits.

The Pioneers scored one run in the first, four in the second and one each in the third and fourth innings. The Hornets scored three in the second to briefly take the lead, another in the fifth, and then five in the final inning for the win.

Brayden Feathers led the Pioneers with his bat, getting two hits, one of them being a triple. Isaak Crittenden also had a triple and brought home a run.

Garry Cox pitched the first four innings for the Pioneers. Drew Nash threw for two innings; and Alec Pearson, Bart Walker and Feathers shared the final inning.
