GENTRY -- The Pioneers scored six touchdowns and five point-after kicks, allowing the visiting Yellowjackets from Westville, Okla., only a single touchdown and 2-point conversion for the 41-8 nonconference win on Friday night in a packed Pioneer stadium.

The Pioneers dominated the game on the ground and in the air with 267 rushing yards and 129 through the air. The Yellowjackets picked up only 115 rushing yards and completed two passes for a total of 40 receiving yards.

Gentry senior Ty Hays led in rushing yards with 92 yards on 11 carries. Chris Bell, Gentry's quarterback and also a senior, had 84 yards rushing on seven carries and scored two of Gentry's TDs.

Freshman Drew Cable and junior Addi Taylor added big yards to Gentry's total with 41 and 31 respectively, each with one carry.

Cable carried the ball into the end zone for another of Gentry's TDs.

Gentry junior Dillon Owens picked up 21 yards for Gentry on a kickoff return.

Taylor led in the receiving department with three catches for a total of 46 yards and a TD. Senior Dillon Jarnagan also caught three passes for 44 yards and scored once.

Hays caught two for 32 yards, and senior Braedon Warren caught one for a seven-yard gain, to make up the balance of Gentry's 129 yards through the air.

With Hays holding the ball, senior kicker Lee Vang was five for five on PAT attempts. He also kicked off five times for the Pioneers.

On the defensive side, Bennett Roberts, a sophomore, led in tackles with seven and four more assists. He also recovered a Westville fumble for the Pioneers. Jared James, a junior who had three tackles and an assist, recovered a fumble, as well.

Eduardo Galvan, a senior, had five tackles and two assists in the game. Tucker Hodges and Dominic Bouyear, both juniors, each sacked the Westville quarterback once in the contest. Hodges forced one of Westville's four fumbles.

"I thought we improved from the benefit game last Tuesday," said Justin Bigham, Gentry's head coach. "We still have plenty to shore up before we go on a long road trip to Quitman," he added.

The Pioneers are off this Friday but are scheduled to travel 200-plus miles to Quitman for a 7 p.m. game on Sept. 9.
