RELIGION: Lost Bible touches finder, then returned

Editor's Note: The story which follows is evidence of the truthfulness of God's promise in Isaiah 55:10-11: "For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."

God answered several specific prayers for me in an amazing way this past month. A treasured Bible I had lost 13 years ago was returned to me! My husband had given it to me for my 56th birthday from the whole family -- in which he, my daughters, and my son-in-law wrote sweet letters inside its covers.

One Sunday, seven months after I'd received it, I accidentally left it on the roof of my car and drove to church. I was pretty upset that I'd lost it in this way and was searching for it in the weeks afterward.

A man had it in his possession for all this time, not having any tech-savvy about how to find me. I had filled out all my genealogy in the front but hadn't thought to include my address or phone number.

A few weeks ago, he asked his new fiancé, "Have I ever shown you my Bible?... but it's not really my Bible."

She immediately saw that it was something special and was able to locate me through my daughter.

The man who found it saw it lying in his business' gravel driveway 30 miles away from where I live. It didn't have any water damage and still looks like new. I'm amazed at how it ended up there.

I met both him and his fiancé at lunchtime for a wonderful visit and the return of my Bible. He said he had been truly blessed by reading it and often

referred to Scripture verses I had underlined. He told me he'd put it in his office drawer for a couple of years, then decided to take it home where he began reading it through at least four times. Then he started going back to church.

God had actually answered my prayer 13 years ago. After much searching in ditches, I'd prayed that, if I couldn't find it, someone who did find it would be blessed. And now I have it back, with letters from my family and from my husband, who is no longer with me.

Minutes before I had gotten the call that my Bible was found, I'd journaled a prayer asking God to remind me of His goodness and faithfulness. He certainly answered that prayer as well!
