GRAVETTE -- Patrons of the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center enjoyed a Valentine's Day party to kick off their week. Monday, Feb. 14, was designated as Wear Red Day on the Center's activity calendar, so most guests came dressed in red.
Voting had been going on for Valentine King and Queen for several days. Participants cast votes for their favorite Valentine by contributing a penny per vote and writing the name of their choice on a slip of paper to place in the ballot box. The man and woman receiving the most votes were to be crowned Valentine King and Queen.
Center director Melissa Provence broke the suspense just before lunch by announcing that James Vancleave and Sandy Steinhaus were winners of the voting. James and Sandy each had 1,350 votes. James was crowned by the 2020 Valentine king Jack Kinney and was given a carrot cake. Sandy received a crown and a bouquet of red roses.
Guests enjoyed a special Valentine's Day lunch of chicken parmesan over spaghetti with sauce, asparagus, garlic bread and tiramisu. Candy kisses were scattered on each table and a Valentine card, Valentine napkin and small box of candy were available at each place setting.
Games were played when the tables were cleared after
lunch. Two popular games were the Oreo game and the Saran Wrap game. In the Oreo game, each player was given an Oreo to place on his forehead and instructed to move the cookie down his face and into his mouth without touching it or dropping it. Mary Griffin and Sandy Steinhaus were winners by using various facial contortions to accomplish their goal. Each was given a gift bag filled with candy and a soft drink. Players unwrapped sheets of Saran Wrap from a large ball in the Saran Wrap game and were allowed to keep whatever prizes they unwrapped during their allotted playing time.
Monday is the day members of the Gravette Lions Club visit the Center with a bookmobile from the public library so several guests checked out new titles and were able to end their day by reading a good book.
