Parents, students, staff notified of new covid rules

by Randy Moll | January 7, 2022 at 9:08 p.m.

GENTRY -- The school district in Gentry notified parents and staff on Friday of the following guidelines in regard to covid-19 and quarantine requirements in the following letter from Terrie Metz, superintendent of Gentry Public Schools:

Parents and Staff,

I want to make you aware of changes to the Covid-19 guidelines for Arkansas Public Schools. These changes reflect updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and were made yesterday by the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of Education. You can read the full document on our website: www.gentrypioneers.com

ISOLATION (for a person who has tested positive)

Stay home for at least 5 days.

If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can return to school.

You must wear a mask through the 10th day of isolation.

If you are unable to wear a mask, continue to isolate yourself for 10 days.

If you have fever, continue to stay home for 24 hours after fever has resolved.

QUARANTINE FOR A CLOSE CONTACT THAT RESIDES IN THE SAME HOME WITH A PERSON WHO HAS TESTED POSITIVE

If the person who has tested positive can isolate away from the rest of the household, then the close contact can begin their quarantine period.

If the person who has tested positive can NOT isolate away from the rest of the household, then the close contact must wait for the positive person to complete their 5 day isolation period before the close contact can begin their own quarantine.

QUARANTINE (for a person who has been exposed to a positive case 3 feet/15 minutes within 24-hour period)

Stay home for 5 days.

Wear a mask through the 10th day.

If you are unable to wear a mask, continue to quarantine for 10 days.

If symptoms occur, self-isolate and get tested.

WHO SHOULD QUARANTINE

Persons 18 or older, who have been vaccinated, but have not received the recommended booster shot when eligible.

Persons not vaccinated or have not completed the initial vaccine series.

WHO DOES NOT NEED TO QUARANTINE

Persons 18 or older that have received all recommended vaccines, including a booster when eligible.

Persons ages 5-17 years that have completed both doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Persons who have had COVID-19 within the last 90 days (PCR or Antigen Test).

Persons with no symptoms and both persons were wearing a mask at time of exposure.

ACTIVITY PARTICIPATION

A person who has completed at least 5 full days of at-home isolation or quarantine may participate in activities provided they are able to properly mask during that activity for the remainder of the 10 day isolation or quarantine period.

If there are staff members or students who are currently quarantined or isolated this new guidance will apply to your situation. Please contact your Campus Nurse or the District Nurse @ 479-525-6370 if you have any questions.

Lastly, please help us keep our schools open by staying home when sick. I appreciate your patience through these times and I know that together the Pioneer Family will continue to take every precaution to protect our community, and the most precious resource, our children.

Terrie Metz, Superintendent
